Button cluster and buttons sewn in rows on ribbons

Pearl button flowers

Paisley or snail shape

Mix a variety of buttons to make clusters and choose a mix of sizes and colors for extra interest.

Sew buttons onto crazy quilting with silk buttonhole twist, using a complementary color, or use Nymo thread; add beads as you sew on the buttons to create visual interest.

If the buttons are very old and valuable, use them on projects that will get little handling.

Used in rows, tiny pearl baby buttons are especially effective. They look like flowers if you sew them on with yellow silk thread and edge them with green lazy daisy stitches.

To make a paisley or snail shape, start out with a large, flat button and rotate outward, overlapping and decreasing the button size, to achieve the desired shape.
